WHO IS LIKE YOU?

Who is like you?
Above all things.
Fashioned the Heavens.
Creation sings.
Who is like You?
None can compare.
Your precious thoughts
Remind You're there.

Father, Maker,
You know me
And hear my cry.
Loving, Forgiving,
Unfailing Father,
Unchanging God.

Who is like You?
Knows ev'ry heart.
Calls all by name.
Loves all the same.
Who is like You?
Deeper than the sea,
Higher than the sky
Is Your love for me.

Father, Maker,
You know me
And hear my cry.
Loving, Forgiving,
Unfailing Father,
Unchanging God.

Who is like You?
None can compare.
How can such love
Cleanse ev'ry stain.
Who is like You?
Claims as His own.
The poor and worn,
He welcomes home.

Father, Saviour,
You know me
And hear my cry.
Loving, Forgiving,
Unfailing Father,
Unchanging God.

None is like You,
Bearing my pain,
A love so true love,
None an explain.

Who is like You?
My Father.

WHO IS LIKE YOU?"
Duration: 4 minutes

Written for SATB Quartet with piano accompaniment.

“Who is Like You?” utilizes the vocalist's breathing techniques to create long phrases, playing with the text. The rising melody, minor progression, and note durations share the feeling of crying out to the Divine in prayer. The piano motif follows the melody line of the singer with variation as the piece moves. This theme shows the lingering question of the piece of “Who is compared to God?”.

The text focuses on the offices of love from God, as a Father, Maker, and Saviour. This love is described through what He does and who He is. The text begins with a rhetorical question, calling Heaven-ward for answers, “Who is like You?”. The answer comes through the verses and acknowledgment of His love, as "my Father."

"Who is Like You?" was written in dedication to my mother, whose father was not apparent in her life, finding true fatherly love in her Heavenly Father.

Scripture: Exodus 15:11. Psalm 8.
