AND IT WAS SO:

And God said, "Let there be.
Light to shine the dark to flee."
And God said, "Let there be,
A firmament between land and sea."

And the sun to shine by day
Stars to shine by night.
Spoke and all earth was made.
"It was good" in His sight.
"And it was so."

And God said, "Let there be.
Grass to grow and yield earth's seed."
And God said, "Let there be,
Waves that roll into rivers and sea."

Life on earth to live and breathe."

"And It Was So" is based on the Biblical text of Genesis 1, which depicts the story of Creation. When God spoke, "it was so", all earth came into existence. The ostinato theme of the left hand mimics the minimalistic techniques of a modern composer, through a repeated rhythm with varied tones. These variations and repetitions grow in momentum to a conclusion in which the left-hand blossoms into triplets. The left hand compliments the right hand, a simple melody floating above and varied throughout.

With deceptive cadences, triplets, and modulation, the music shows the process of Divine creation. The music pauses for the first time before leading into the final refrain, picturing the Scriptural truth of God resting on the seven day of Creation.
