PSALM 142: "I Cry to Thee"

I cry to Thee
I lift up my voice.
I pour out my soul to Thee.

None heard my cry.
None came to help.
There was no care for me.

Yet, You knew my path.
And You led the way
And You heard my voice cry out.

I cry to Thee
And You heard my voice.
O God, deliver me.

I cry to Thee
When I'm overwhelmed
By questions laid hold on me.

Thou art my Rock,
Refuge and Song.
God, above, hear my plea!

O, break free my soul
From guilt, I am bound
And let forgiveness abound.

I cry to Thee
You answered my voice.
O God, I praise Your name.

The melody consists of a pattern between the major tonic triad with added 9ths, picturing the deconstruction of the sentence: "I Cry to Thee." Suspensions show the longing for answers. Ascending and descending melodic flows pictures the cry towards God, leading to the climax: "God, above, hear my plea!". The repetition of the melodic pattern pictures the repeated lifecycle of a need of deliverance, prayer, and repentance.
