You Remain the Same

"You Remain the Same” is inspired from the story of Elijah. In the lowest time of his life, Elijah was fleeing from his enemies, depressed, and wanted to die. God created a fire, earthquake, and mighty wind. But in these three natural elements of nature, God was not within them or consumed by them. Rather, God came to Elijah in a still small voice. This story shows the faithfulness of God. He remains in the fire. He remains in the wind. He remains in the earthquake. He remains the same.
Through the use of cluster chords, this piece pulses allowing the melodic line to flow above. The piano accompaniment on measure 9 shares the same texture of an earthquake, pulsing eighth notes with unison on the melody. The repetition of rhythm and melodic lines allow for the piece to be learned by the congregation quickly and orally.
