I'll Praise You Now; I'll Praise You Then

Project type

Congregational Chorus

“I’ll Praise You Now” shares the importance of praising God throughout life. Praise is not only in the mountain top experiences but in the valleys, knowing that one will learn from those hardships. “Until my song shall end” refers to the ending of one’s praise at the end of their life. Praise is continual throughout one’s life, pictured in the pulsing piano chords. The piano accompaniment keeps the beat for the congregation as they sing along.
The music pictures the text in measure 7 where the melody remains lower on “valleys” and moves upward before “mountain tops”. This shape occurs throughout the piece, moving upward and downward melodically. Dynamically, the piece begins louder, as a shout of praise. Yet, the piece ends contemplatively and thoughtfully shown in quieter dynamics.
