Goodbye 'Til Next Week

“Goodbye ‘Til Next Week'' is intended as a closing song for children to sing as they leave the worship space on a Sunday morning. The lyrics resolve to: “listen and obey…read God’s Word each day… [and] pray.” Regardless of the day of the week, what one does on Sunday should be done everyday. Going to church is more than being present in the space; but rather, being present teaches one how to be a Christian. Being a Christian is to be lived everyday and not only at times of worship. The theme is “goodbye” to Sunday school but not “goodbye” to living as a Christian.
The piano accompaniment allows a playful texture to accompany the space of a children’s ministry. Dynamically, the piece varies slightly, getting louder in the building of phrases. The melody leaps upward to then move in stepwise motion both up and down. The music shares a common pattern that helps the melody to easily slide off the tongue, to be learnt quickly, and to be memorable.
